When a struggling young man is cast as Jesus Christ in a megachurch's televised Passion Play, he's launched into a life of fame and fortune. But his newfound success has a looming expiration date.

What wouldn’t Jesus do?

1996 Southern California. A dishwasher with a felony record who works at a local pizza shop saves the life of a man who plays Jesus Christ in the local megachurch’s Passion Play. He explains that playing Jesus is a blessing and a curse: all the Jesus actors die at age 33, just like Jesus did. The man gives the dishwasher  “the Bible,” a scrapbook filled with notes passed down from Jesus to Jesus that details how to best play the role.

Then he dies of an overdose.

The dishwasher takes the Bible and auditions to be the next Jesus, landing the role and launching into the world of Evangelical megachurch stardom, transforming from scrawny pizza boy to ripped, sexy surfer Jesus.

Fast forward three years. He’s turning 33 and feeling paranoid about whether he’s going to die. His life is complicated when a devout Hispanic heart throb who will play Jesus in a new Spanish edition of the Passion enters the picture. And then the Church decides it will expand into a new market, bringing on a “Korean Jesus.”

Chaos ensues. Everything burns… except the Bible.
